Borage produces purple, umbrella-like flowers that open over fuzzy, cucumber tasting leaves. Beautiful salad or drink garnish. Flowers can also be candied. Grows well in Auburn, Citrus Heights, Elk Grove, Folsom, Rocklin, Roseville and Sacramento.

Plant in enriched garden soil 1-2 weeks after last frost. Leave 8″-10″ of space between each plant. Fertilize when transplanting and again after first harvest. Water early morning or late evening. Harvest leaves or flowers as needed by pinching leaves off at the stem. For best flavor, pick early in the morning when leaves have their highest oil content.
