Hydrangea is a deciduous shrub with large, mophead, fragrant flower clusters of pink, blue, purple or white in summer. Acidic soil can enhance blue blooms. Use in containers, as an accent plant or as a hedge. Grows well in Auburn, Citrus Heights, Elk Grove, Folsom, Rocklin, Roseville and Sacramento.
Performs best with enriched and well drained soils. Acidic soil can enhance blue blooms. Feed in spring. Prune after bloom. Blooms on old wood.
These characteristics apply to the greater Sacramento area and nearby regions.
